Remote Files & Commands lets an authorized user access a paired computer through ChatGPT or Codex. The bridge processes only data needed to carry out user-requested tool calls.

Data processed

The service may process file paths, file contents explicitly requested by the user, process metadata, command arguments, device identifiers, authentication metadata, and operational logs needed for reliability and security.

Data flow

Desktop data remains on the paired device until a user invokes a tool. Requested results are relayed to the connected OpenAI product so the assistant can complete the user's request. The bridge does not intentionally collect browser passwords, keychains, SSH keys, API-key folders, or other configured sensitive locations.

Retention

Tool payloads are not intentionally stored by the relay as application data. Infrastructure logs may retain request metadata for security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting. Local configuration and pairing credentials remain on the user's device or service host.

Security

Device connections use authenticated channels. File access is restricted to configured roots. Sensitive roots and network-capable executables are blocked by default. Users should grant only the permissions necessary for their workflows.
